Ramon Cuervo opened a shop in 1882 located in Havana, Cuba.  Cuervo’s nephew (“Sobrinos” translates to nephews in Spanish hence the name Cuervo y Sobrinos), Armando Rio Cuervo, eventually took over the business in 1900.  Throughout the years, Cuervo y Sobrinos expanded to Germany, France, and Switzerland.  The company went dormant in the late 1950’s due to politician turmoil in Cuba.  It was relaunched again in Europe in 2002.  Iconic Cuervo y Sobrinos lines include the Cuervo y Sobrinos Historiador, Cuervo y Sobrinos Vuelo, Cuervo y Sobrinos Prominente, Cuervo y Sobrinos Robusto, Cuervo y Sobrinos Pirata, and Cuervo y Sobrinos Esplendido.
