Limited edition gents stainless steel Tag Heuer Autavia chronograph wristwatch and dashboard timer set, ref #CY2110. Limited edition of 70 sets. Circa 2003. Silver opaline Tag Heuer dial with applied markers and black sub-dials and blue accents aka “Panda” dial. Black Tachymeter bezel. Quick set date change. Left side crown. Swiss made, automatic self winding Calibre 11 movement. Comes on a stainless steel Tag Heuer bracelet with a stainless steel push button Tag Heuer deployant buckle. The back of the Autavia dashboard is stamped “Tag Heuer Autavia Limited Edition XX/70, TY3111, 70th Anniversary.” Accompanied by a fitted limited edition Tag Heuer watch and dashboard box, Tag Heuer manuals for the watch and the dashboard, and three nuts and screws to mount the dashboard instrument. The watch box has a plaque with the matching edition number on the dashboard. Approximate diameter of the wristwatch is 44mm and the approximate diameter of the dashboard timer is 57mm.
Has superficial scratches due to normal wear and age. Overall condition is very good. Running at the time of inspection, however not checked for accuracy nor water resistance/proofness. An overhaul is always recommended for used watches.
This set was released in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Autavia. Limited to only 70 special collector’s sets released in 2003. Each set had a Tag Heuer Autavia chronograph watch and a Tag Heuer Autavia dashboard timer. The bracelet of the CY2110 was made to be similar to the original “Grains of Rice” bracelet. This set was an homage to Swiss Formula 1 driver, Jo Siffert, who wore the Heuer Autavia #1163T in 1969. At the same time, Tag Heuer released the Tag Heuer Autavia chronograph and dashboard set, ref #CY2111. Also limited to 70 collector’s sets with a black and silver Panda dial.
In 1860, Edouard Heuer founded Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG. In 1933, they introduced the Autavia dashboard timer for cars and planes. In the mid-1940’s, Heuer came up with the Heuer triple calendar chronographs. In the 1950’s, they collaborated with Abercrombie & Fitch to produce the Abercrombie & Fitch Seafarer chronograph and the Abercrombie & Fitch Auto-Graph chronograph. In the 1960’s, Heuer became popular with motor racing events and teams such as Forumla One, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and Shelby Cobra.
